The Ouessant Sheep Society of Great Britain was formed in February 2005 by a group of enthusiastic breeders and owners of the Ouessant sheep. The founding members came from all over the UK; as far as the North of Aberdeenshire, Isle of Man and Southern and South West England, with approximately twenty others to exchange ideas and views to form the society. The Society now has over 200 members. The Society maintains the UK flock book - the national register of pedigree Ouessants - and represents the interests of Ouessant sheep and their owners at home and abroad. We are affiliated with the French and Dutch Ouessant societies and maintain contact with the societies in Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. We liaise with other UK breed societies over sheep welfare and represent the views of our members to Defra. We are establishing a regional structure, to promote the breed at shows and exhibitions and to provide advice and support to our members across the country.
